Marion Superfront

The Marion Superfront has always been one of my favorite shovel designs. In the mid-1960s Marion started experimenting with a model 101-M with the new front end attachment and the bucket capacity increased from 3 cubic yards to 5 cubic yards This is the only photo I have ever seen of that unit.

In 1969 Marion built two prototypes with Superfront attachments on the 14 cubic yard 191-M shovel to create the 22 cubic yard 194-M seen in the attached photo. These two machines were then tested and evaluated at several mines in the United States over the next three years.
